New Treatment Launching at The Dorchester Spa

The Dorchester’s award-winning destination Spa is delighted to announce the launch from July 2010 of a new Dorchester Spa signature body treatment, Hot and Cold Stone Therapy, priced at £160 lasting 85 minutes. This is the first new treatment to be introduced since the spa’s revamp last May.
The Dorchester Spa’s highly skilled therapists use a combination of smooth hot basalt stones derived from volcanic rock, and cold organic marble stones across the full body area. The treatment is ideal for those suffering from physical and emotional stress, tension, muscle strain, feeling ‘off colour’ or wishing to speed up detoxification and the body’s natural methods of toxin removal. The effect of using both hot and cold Stones is a deeper dimension of relaxation than ordinary massage techniques, bringing balance to the mind, body and soul.
Flat stones are used for effleurage and petrissage and the stone’s smooth edges are used for deep tissue work. Different sized stones are used for different parts of the body, working with the body’s natural surface areas and contours. The exact temperature of the stones is prescribed to suit the needs of each individual client.
The Dorchester Spa’s therapists have undergone Jane Scrivner’s training course, the respected author of 9 detox books and a respected expert of the stone massage method. Commenting on the difference between simple hot stone therapy and the use of both hot and cold stones, Jane Scrivner explained: “The variation in temperature produces alternately sedative and energizing responses in the body. Cold stones are particularly effective at relieving aches and pain after exercise or for relieving extreme tension build up.”
